Toxins in Cosmetics?!?!?!

I am passionate about Shaklee. And I want EVERYONE to be passionate. Yes, it has an incredible compensation plan, and yes, it helps allow me to stay home with Maggie. However, I did not pick Shaklee just because of the business aspect. That aspect is key, don't get me wrong, but to have a successful business, the products must be special. Shaklee products are unparalleled.

One of Shaklee's philosophies is that our products are "Always Safe, Always Work, and Always Green." Today, I want to focus on the cosmetics aspect of Shaklee. To understand why Shaklee is so great, let's look at some of the leading marketed brands that you can find on your grocery store shelf.

Check out "The Story of Cosmetics" (not related in any way to Shaklee Corporation).

So my hope is that you understand why so many products out there are just not safe. If you're looking for a healthier and safer alternative, you know where to find me. :)

Big B, Little B, What Begins with B?

B vitamins!

Let me introduce you to B-complex, a supplement that provides all 8 essential B vitamins. What are these vitamins and why are them important? Glad you asked! B vitamins are water-soluble vitamins that are easily absorbed by the body and must be replenished everyday. These are just some of the main functions of these vitamins:
  1. B1 (thiamin) -converts sugar to energy, essential for nervous system, cardiovascular and muscular function.
  2. B2 (riboflavin) - breaks down carbohydrates, fats and protein for use by the body, converts carbohydrates into ATP
  3. B3 (niacin) - helps the body make hormones in the adrenal glands and other parts of the body and is effective in improving circulation and reducing cholesterol levels in the blood.
  4. B5 (pantothenic acid) - essential to the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as well as for the synthesis of hormones and cholesterol
  5. B6(pyridoxine) - needed for protein metabolism, essential for red blood cell metabolism, and is important for proper functioning of the nervous and immune systems.
  6. B12 (cobalamine) - required for proper red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis.
  7. Biotin - needed for the formation of fatty acids and glucose
  8. Folic Acid - helps produce and maintain new cells, especially important during infancy and pregnancy. Folate is needed to make DNA and RNA, the building blocks of cells, and helps prevent DNA changes which could cause cancer.
And here's more of the Shaklee difference in regards to B-Complex. While folic acid is not easily absorbed, Shaklee has a patented folic acid coating that makes it more accessible and bioavailable.

Learn more about why B vitamins are so crucial to your health and try some B-Complex today! http://saraandstevegibbs.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sku=20186

Healthy Cleaning

I was scouring my sink and stove this morning with Shaklee Get Clean's Scour Off while holding my 9-month-old, and it got me thinking. There's no way I'd let my daughter be this close if I was using other cleaning products.

Other cleaning products can contain ammonia, butyl cellosolve, formaldehyde, hydrochloric acid, and phenols just to name a few. Some of the dangers include irritants, carcinogens, and reproductive damage not to mention an increase in respiratory problems such as asthma. People, we are "cleaning" with these! Our kids are playing in rooms where we're using these, and we're eating and preparing food off surfaces which have had these chemicals on them.

Don't just take my word for it. Check out some common cleaning products at the Household Products Database at the National Institutes of Health (http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/).

And these are just some of the known dangers. As Sloan Barnett says in her book, Green Goes with Everything, "The fact is that the government has no idea whether most of the chemicals used in everyday cleaning products are safe because it doesn't test them, and it doesn't require manufacturers to test them either.

So do yourself and your family a favor. Opt for safe and healthy cleaning products that are not only safe for you, but good for the environment as well. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Shaklee's Get Clean line. On top of the health benefits, it's also easy on your pocketbook. Check it out.
